Server installation, maintenance

In a network environment it is useful to refer functions and services used simultaneously by several workstations (users) to separate server computers. Among the advantages of using servers we can mention centralised configuration and data management, which enable a simple and efficient way of user and authority management, data storage and archiving.

To ensure data security we recommend the use of RAID (Redundant Array of Independent Disks) technology, which protects the user in case of a failing of data storage disks. Using this technology will ensure uninterrupted operation without loss of data or the interruption of services, as well as an automatic resort to a spare data storage disk, if necessary.

It is important to note that the application of RAID arrays does not prevent data loss arising from the failing of other hardware devices (memory, processor, motherboard, disk controller, etc.) or due to user intervention, therefore we strongly recommend making backup copies in all cases.

If the server has Internet access (via a purpose-built, limited, secure tunnel) remote management tools become available even for the workstations. As a result, tasks needing the system administrator’s intervention (installations, updates, configurations) can be carried out and possible problems solved fast and cost-effectively.

Apart from the application of supervisory tools, the VPN (Virtual Private Network) technology can provide remote access to services, that is, company documents, correspondence, applications and other shared resources can be accessed via secure connection from remote locations.

Depending on the workload and the performance of the computer, a server is able to perform several different functions (e.g.: file server, DHCP, print server, etc.), as well as operating several independent operational systems by creating a virtual environment.

These technologies help create a cost-effective, secure and easily updateable office environment.

Most used server applications:

  • File and print servers
  • DHCP and DNS services
  • Proxy servers, firewalls
  • Mailing with filtering spams and viruses
  • Database and address book services
  • FTP and webservers
  • VPN and remote management tools
  • Automatic backup solutions
  • Statistics

We offer the installation and operation of Linux and Microsoft Windows based servers.
